Brief Biography

Dr. Paula DiBiasio is a pediatric physical therapist and associate professor with over three decades of experience specializing in the care of infants, children and their families. Her extensive career includes roles as a teacher, scholar, and mentor across academic and clinical environments advancing both practice and education in pediatric rehabilitation. Dr. DiBiasio teaches DPT curriculum related to pediatrics and is Director of the Department of Physical Therapy Education (DPTE) Global Learning Opportunities program.

Paula earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University, a Master of Human Movement Science (research) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Doctor in Physical therapy (clinical) from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, and a PhD in Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Paula holds advanced certifications in specialty areas of pediatric care and is a life-long learner. 

Dr. DiBiasio is active in the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Pediatrics and works with Section leaders on issues related to curriculum and the scholarship of teaching and learning.  She is also active in the APTA Global Health Special Interest Group.

In her role as the DPTE Director of the Global Learning Opportunities Program, Dr. DiBiasio collaborates with international partners to create sustainable and reciprocally beneficial relationships for student and faculty exchanges. Her research focuses on enhancing intercultural skills in physiotherapy students, aiming to prepare graduates who are adept in delivering equitable, individualized, and person-centered healthcare across diverse populations and settings. Paula volunteers as a curriculum consultant for the development of physiotherapy academic programs globally, teaches internationally, and is dedicated to promoting access and equity in healthcare. She has presented nationally and internationally on the topic of intercultural skill development, as well as other topic areas.

Service Activities

Dr. DiBiasio has served in leadership positions and as a member of numerous committees university-wide, within the School of Health Sciences, and the Department of Physical Therapy Education. She has a long history of providing pro bono services in her home and work communities, mentor alumni, junior colleagues, and students at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ and across the globe. Paula volunteers with local public schools, hospitals, family services, non-profits, etc. and as a family advocate for infants and children with special needs. She also serves as a manuscript referee and judge for conference presentations/abstracts.Dr. DiBiasio has been a curriculum consultant for many physiotherapy programs, including providing support for emerging PT programs in remote parts of the world.

Professional Development

Dr. DiBiasio demonstrates a strong commitment to lifelong learning through the continual pursuit of current evidence-informed physical therapy practice and scholarship in teaching and learning. She actively engages in personal and professional development, with particular attention to expanding her knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her dedication to ongoing growth is reflected in her regular participation in a wide range of professional development activities, which occur so frequently and extensively that maintaining a comprehensive, up-to-date record in this location is not possible.
