Multimedia Authoring Minor
The Multimedia Authoring minor at ÂÒÂ×ÊÓƵ is an interdisciplinary minor in the School of Arts and Sciences. Its core courses are in Professional Writing & Rhetoric and Computer Science, and students can select their electives from a range of disciplines to gear the minor to their own interests (including classes from Art, Journalism, Marketing, Communication Design, as well Professional Writing & Rhetoric and Computer Science). The MMA minor provides an interdisciplinary approach to the development of successful and persuasive digital content for all disciplines/professions. Students will have the opportunity to develop communication, design, and technology skills in the context of disciplinary content. These skills are beneficial for graduates in all fields, given that the predominant mode of communication in the 21st century is online, digital, and multimedia.
The multimedia minor will allow students to integrate the study of digital design and writing with a solid technical foundation through core courses in Professional Writing & Rhetoric and Information Science. Students will learn document design and content from the Professional Writing & Rhetoric classes where they will address the theory and challenge of developing multimedia with rich technical writing. These design skills will be complemented with courses in Computer Science, and students can gear the minor to their own interests by selecting electives from a list of pre-approved courses.
In the final Multimedia Authoring Studio course, students will address a variety of multimedia challenges as well as become production writers and designers for a client with real written, multimedia, and website needs.
